A 1,171-bed tertiary- and quaternary-care teaching facility, The Mount Sinai Hospital is located on the border between East Harlem and the Upper East Side. As one of the nation’s oldest, largest, and most-respected voluntary hospitals, it serves one of the most diverse patient populations in the world. Today, the tradition of caring for underserved individuals is exemplified by the expansion of primary care and through unique outreach programs, such as Visiting Doctors, the nation’s largest physician home-visiting service, and the Preventable Admissions Care Team, which has improved patient outcomes and greatly reduced hospital readmissions and emergency department visits among high-risk patients.
